LiteLLM: MCP vendor profile
LiteLLM is an open-source, self-hosted AI gateway whose proxy includes an MCP Gateway: one fixed endpoint for MCP tools, access controlled by API key and team, usable with any model LiteLLM routes, as documented by the vendor. The LiteLLM MCP gateway supports Streamable HTTP, SSE and stdio transports to upstream servers (docs.litellm.ai).
At a glance
What it does for this layer
LiteLLM exposes /mcp-rest/tools/list and /mcp-rest/tools/call so tools can be called with curl without an LLM (docs.litellm.ai). LiteLLM prefixes each tool name with its MCP server name and now requires new server names to comply with SEP-986 (docs.litellm.ai). The LiteLLM docs say the gateway "negotiates the protocol version during initialize" (docs.litellm.ai).
LiteLLM's home page says it offers one OpenAI-compatible API to "140+ providers and 1,800+ models" and is "Open source. Self-hosted." (www.litellm.ai, vendor's own claim). The BerriAI/litellm repository had about 62.8k stars on 5 Nov 2026 and describes a Rust core with a Python SDK (github.com, observed 5 November 2026). LiteLLM Proxy provides "an MCP Gateway that allows you to use a fixed endpoint for all MCP tools and control MCP access by Key, Team" (docs.litellm.ai).

What it does not do
- LiteLLM does not host MCP server code as a managed service on the pages read; the proxy is self-hosted.
- The MCP overview does not describe acting as an OAuth authorization server for MCP clients.
