LiteLLM prefixes each tool name with its MCP server name and now requires new server names to comply with SEP-986 ([docs.litellm.ai](https://docs.litellm.ai/docs/mcp)). The LiteLLM docs say the gateway "negotiates the protocol version during initialize" ([docs.litellm.ai](https://docs.litellm.ai/docs/mcp)). LiteLLM's home page says it offers one OpenAI-compatible API to "140+ providers and 1,800+ models" and is "Open source. Self-hosted." ([www.litellm.ai](https://www.litellm.ai/), vendor's own claim). The BerriAI/litellm repository had about 62.8k stars on 5 Nov 2026 and describes a Rust core with a Python SDK ([github.com](https://github.com/BerriAI/litellm), observed 5 November 2026).
