GitHub: MCP vendor profile
GitHub runs a curated MCP Registry for partner and community servers, hosts its own remote GitHub MCP server, and lets Copilot surfaces use MCP servers under an organisation policy that is off by default, as documented by the vendor. GitHub advises using the tools field in repository settings to allowlist specific tools, preferably read-only ones (docs.github.com).

What it does for this layer
Copilot CLI supports local and remote MCP servers and has the GitHub MCP server built in without extra configuration (docs.github.com). For Copilot cloud agent, the default Playwright MCP server can only reach web resources in the agent's own environment through localhost or 127.0.0.1 (docs.github.com). The Copilot docs navigation lists a page titled "Change MCP registry" next to "Configure toolsets" and enterprise configuration (docs.github.com).
GitHub's Copilot docs describe the GitHub MCP Registry as "a curated list of MCP servers from partners and the community" (docs.github.com). GitHub's "MCP servers in Copilot" policy lets enterprises and organisations enable or disable MCP for members, and the policy is disabled by default (docs.github.com). In Copilot cloud agent, the default GitHub MCP server uses a specially scoped token with read-only access to the current repository (docs.github.com).

What it does not do
- Copilot cloud agent does not connect to OAuth-protected remote MCP servers set in repository settings (docs.github.com).
