# Google Cloud Run: MCP vendor profile

Google Cloud Run hosts remote MCP servers built with the official SDKs or FastMCP as streamable-HTTP services, with access controlled by IAM and a local proxy command for developer clients, as documented by the vendor. Cloud Run deploys an MCP server with gcloud run deploy, either from an image with --image and --port or from source with --source (cloud.google.com).

## What it does for this layer

New Google Cloud customers get 300 USD in free credits, per the Cloud Run MCP guide ([cloud.google.com](https://cloud.google.com/run/docs/host-mcp-servers)). Cloud Run "supports hosting MCP servers with streamable HTTP transport, but not MCP servers with stdio transport." ([cloud.google.com](https://cloud.google.com/run/docs/host-mcp-servers)). Google's guide applies to servers built with an official MCP SDK or FastMCP and to existing community MCP servers ([cloud.google.com](https://cloud.google.com/run/docs/host-mcp-servers)).

Local MCP clients can authenticate with the Cloud Run Invoker IAM role (roles/run.invoker) ([cloud.google.com](https://cloud.google.com/run/docs/host-mcp-servers)). gcloud run services proxy MCP\_SERVER\_NAME --region REGION --port=3000 creates a local proxy on port 3000 that exposes the remote MCP server to a local client ([cloud.google.com](https://cloud.google.com/run/docs/host-mcp-servers)). The Cloud Run guide separates authentication for local MCP clients from MCP clients that run on Cloud Run itself ([cloud.google.com](https://cloud.google.com/run/docs/host-mcp-servers)).

## What it does not do

- Cloud Run does not act as an OAuth authorization server for public MCP clients in the guide read; it relies on IAM.
