# Docker: MCP vendor profile

Docker packages MCP servers as container images in its MCP Catalog and runs them through the open-source MCP Gateway, which starts each server in an isolated container and injects credentials per call, as documented by the vendor. Organisations can build custom Docker MCP catalogs limited to approved servers for their teams (docs.docker.com).

## What it does for this layer

Docker says its MCP Catalog provides "300+ verified servers packaged as container images with versioning, provenance, and security updates" ([docs.docker.com](https://docs.docker.com/ai/mcp-catalog-and-toolkit/), vendor's own claim). Docker's MCP Toolkit organises servers into catalogs, profiles and clients, so one setup serves several AI applications ([docs.docker.com](https://docs.docker.com/ai/mcp-catalog-and-toolkit/)). Docker describes the MCP Gateway as its "open source solution for orchestrating Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers", a proxy that manages configuration, credentials and access control ([docs.docker.com](https://docs.docker.com/ai/mcp-catalog-and-toolkit/mcp-gateway/)).

The MCP Gateway runs in the background when Docker Desktop has MCP Toolkit enabled, and the --profile flag selects which servers it exposes ([docs.docker.com](https://docs.docker.com/ai/mcp-catalog-and-toolkit/mcp-gateway/)). MCP Gateway as part of Docker AI Governance is an invite-only feature handled by Docker Sales, per the docs note read on 5 Nov 2026 ([docs.docker.com](https://docs.docker.com/ai/mcp-catalog-and-toolkit/mcp-gateway/)). Docker publishes the gateway source at docker/mcp-gateway under the MIT license, with about 1.6k GitHub stars counted on 5 Nov 2026 ([github.com](https://github.com/docker/mcp-gateway), observed 5 November 2026).

The docker mcp CLI plugin keeps secrets out of environment variables through Docker Desktop secrets management and includes built-in OAuth flows for servers that need an access token ([github.com](https://github.com/docker/mcp-gateway)). The Docker MCP Gateway runs each MCP server in an isolated container with restricted privileges, network access and resource usage, starting it on demand when a tool is called ([docs.docker.com](https://docs.docker.com/ai/mcp-catalog-and-toolkit/mcp-gateway/)).

## Products and plans

| Product | What it does | Price |
| --- | --- | --- |
| MCP Catalog | Curated MCP servers as container images, plus custom catalogs. | price not read |
| MCP Toolkit | Docker Desktop feature that manages profiles and client connections. | price not read |
| MCP Gateway | Open-source proxy that runs MCP servers in containers and routes tool calls. | open source, MIT; from 0 USD; Governance edition is invite-only (source, as of 5 November 2026) |

## Checks on its own domain

| Check | Domain | Result | Scanned | Method |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Ora cached score | docker.com | 69 of 100, grade C | 11 October 2026 | how it was taken |
| Cloudflare agent-readiness scan | docker.com | 27 of 100, L1 Basic Web Presence; 4 of 15 counted checks passed | 5 November 2026 | how it was taken |

## What it does not do

- Docker's MCP Gateway is aimed at containers on a developer machine or Docker host; the docs read do not describe a hosted multi-tenant endpoint.
- The Docker docs read here do not state which MCP protocol revision the Gateway implements.
